Islamabad, June 20, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday instructed relevant authorities to finalise the National Industrial Policy as soon as possible. The aim of this policy is to boost production and find lasting solutions for the challenges faced by the industrial sector.
During a meeting focused on promoting the industrial sector, the Prime Minister emphasized that the policy must be developed through discussions with all involved parties.
“Uncertain industrial policies have hindered industrial growth,” stated PM Shehbaz. “With an effective policy, we will elevate industrial development to new heights.”
The Prime Minister described the industrial sector as the foundation of the country’s exports, stressing that its growth is vital for achieving economic progress driven by exports.

“Equipping local industries with a skilled workforce and modern technology that meets international standards is our top priority.
We will encourage investment in the country by making tariffs more rational,” he said. This push for a new policy comes as inconsistent government actions have hampered Pakistan’s industrial growth, often changing due to political reasons or inaccurate information.
Officials informed the Prime Minister during the meeting that a strong industrial policy would revitalize the country’s manufacturing sector. The meeting was attended by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar, and other high-ranking officials.

Reports indicate that recurring energy shortages and high energy costs have been significant obstacles to industrial growth.
The inefficiency of government-run power companies and the circular debt resulting from impractical agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) are identified as the main underlying issues.
Business groups argue that energy prices in Pakistan are much higher than in comparable nations. They have urged the government to address this fundamental problem and take action against influential individuals involved in power theft and bill defaulting.
