Islamabad, June 21, 2025: Adobe has unveiled another camera application for the iPhone, expanding its recent lineup that includes Firefly and Photoshop on the App Store. The US-based tech giant has released Project Indigo, a specialized camera app created by Adobe Labs.
This app utilizes computational photography to take up to 32 frames and merge them into a single image. It applies artificial intelligence (AI) to store visuals in both Standard Dynamic Range (SDR) and High Dynamic Range (HDR) formats. According to Adobe, Project Indigo is compatible with Camera Raw and Lightroom apps.
Key Features
In a research publication, Adobe outlined the details of its new camera app. Project Indigo aims to fix the issue of the typical “smartphone image style” — pictures that are overly lit, lack contrast, have vibrant colors, over-smoothing, and heavy sharpening. Although such images may appear fine on small screens, they often seem unrealistic on larger displays, as Adobe noted.
To address this, Project Indigo steps in with advanced capabilities. It is currently available as a free experimental app on the App Store for iPhone users.
Main Highlights
Complete Manual Settings:
- Full manual controls, with tools like aperture, exposure time, ISO, focus, and white balance
- Separate tuning for temperature and tint
Dual Modes:
- Photo Mode for regular lighting
- Night Mode for low-light photography
- Uses longer exposures to minimize grain
- Captures more frames per shutter press
- Enhances image stabilization and reduces camera shake
Natural Image Output:
- Produces a more “SLR-style” image feel
- Strives for maximum quality with more natural tones

Advanced Image Processing
The app is driven by computational photography techniques and is said to intentionally underexpose images more than traditional smartphone cameras. This helps in:
- Capturing, aligning, and blending up to 32 shots
- Achieving:
- Reduced overexposed highlights
- Lower noise in darker areas
- Sharper and more balanced overall results
Adobe claims that with this method, less spatial noise reduction is needed. This allows the app to keep more authentic textures, even if some visual noise remains. These apply to both JPEG and RAW formats.

Enhanced Zoom Functionality
Project Indigo also enhances pinch-to-zoom performance on iPhone. It sses multi-frame super resolution to:
- Recover lost image detail from digital zoom
- Create a super resolution photo by merging multiple frames of the same view
- Deliver better clarity than a single zoomed-in shot
Device Compatibility and Availability
Adobe Project Indigo is supported on:
- iPhone Pro models from the iPhone 12 series onward
- iPhone 14 and newer non-Pro models
At the time, the Adobe iPhone camera app is entirely free. Users can download and start using it directly as no sign-in required. Adobe has also shared its plan to develop a similar app for Android devices in the near future.
