Islamabad, June 21, 2025: In a bold move to promote clean energy and modernize public transport, the Punjab government has announced the installation of 2,000 EV charging stations across the province. Alongside this eco-friendly shift, around 600 electric buses are set to hit the roads in the project’s first phase, making it one of Pakistan’s largest electric mobility rollouts to date.

The initiative was formally reviewed in a high-level virtual meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman at the Civil Secretariat. Senior officials including secretaries of transport and health departments, the CEO of Lahore Waste Management Company, and commissioners from across Punjab joined in.

Chief Secretary Zaman instructed all deputy commissioners to begin identifying strategic locations for EV charging points and bus depots in their respective districts. He emphasized that this project aims to provide the public with safe, modern, and internationally aligned transportation facilities.

In addition to transforming the transport sector, Zaman also addressed other pressing administrative matters. He ordered strict action against overloading in public transport to ensure commuter safety. He further demanded urgent measures for the digitalization of land records and directed officials to crack down on corruption within the revenue department.

Highlighting public health concerns, the chief secretary also instructed swift and effective action against the rising cases of dog bite incidents, calling them a growing threat that needs immediate attention.

This green transformation initiative is expected to significantly reduce urban pollution and dependency on fossil fuels, setting a new benchmark for sustainable development in Pakistan.
