Islamabad, June 23, 2025: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired an NSC meeting today to discuss escalating regional tensions after Israeli aggression against Iran. The Committee strongly condemned Israel’s actions, regretting their timing amidst ongoing Iran-US negotiations.
The NSC highlighted that these “reckless actions” have significantly heightened tensions. It is threatening to ignite a wider conflict in the region and undermining opportunities for peaceful dialogue and diplomacy. In its strong stance, the Committee reaffirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defense, a right enshrined within the United Nations Charter.

The NSC extended its condolences to the Government and people of Iran for the loss of innocent lives and offered prayers for the swift recovery of those injured in the recent events.
Reiterating Pakistan’s consistent foreign policy position, the Committee expressed grave concern over the potential for further escalation, particularly following attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan on June 22.
These attacks, the NSC noted, constitute violations of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) resolutions, relevant international law, and the UN Charter.
