Islamabad, June 26, 2025: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet today (Thursday) in Quetta for the sighting of the Muharram-ul-Haram moon. If moon sighted, 1st Muharram will be observed on June 27, marking the start of the new Islamic year.

According to an official notice, the meeting will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the committee’s chairman. At the same time, Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees across the country will hold separate meetings at their regional headquarters to assist in collecting moon sighting evidence.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) earlier predicted that the moon of Muharram-ul-Haram 1447 AH is likely to be visible on the evening of June 26.

SUPARCO’s statement explained that the moon is expected to be born on June 25 at 3:32 PM, and its age by sunset on June 26 will be around 28 hours and 15 minutes — making it favorable for visibility. The visibility is expected to last around for 75 minutes after sunset.

Moreover, the Islamic New Year 1447 AH has officially begun in Saudi Arabia and several Gulf countries on Wednesday evening, as the crescent moon was sighted , further confirming that Thursday, June 26, 2025, as the 1st of Muharram.
