Islamabad, June 26, 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced a public holiday throughout the province on the 1st of Muharram to celebrate the commencement of the Islamic New Year.

As per a formal notification issued by the provincial officials, the public holiday will take place on 1st Muharram 1447 Hijri, depending on the appearance of the new crescent, as verified by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.

it is important to note that the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee is scheduled to meet today (Thursday) in Quetta for the sighting of the Muharram moon. If moon sighted, 1st Muharram will be observed on June 27.

According to an official notice, the meeting will be chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad, the committee’s chairman. At the same time, Zonal Ruet-e-Hilal Committees across the country will hold separate meetings at their regional headquarters to assist in collecting moon sighting evidence.

The Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) earlier predicted that the moon of Muharram is likely to be visible on the evening of June 26.
