Islamabad, June 26, 2025: Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari issued a stark warning on Thursday, stating that social media users posting fake or inflammatory content during Muharram will face immediate arrest.
Speaking at a Lahore press conference, Bokhari emphasized Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s directive for strict action against online content inciting hatred, sectarianism, or violence during the sacred month.
For the first time in Punjab’s history, a dedicated cybersecurity force will monitor social media platforms in collaboration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA). Action against those spreading false information will include account suspension and legal prosecution.

Additionally, Bokhari announced a complete ban on drone use during Muharram, with immediate arrests for anyone caught operating them. These measures aim to ensure peace and security, preventing disruption through digital or aerial means.
Meanwhile, Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi chaired a high-level meeting on the Nationwide Muharram Security Plan, reviewing detailed security arrangements for all provinces, including Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Islamabad.

The meeting decided on a crackdown against elements spreading religious hatred on social media during Muharram, with strict legal action to follow. Recommendations will also be sent to PEMRA to curb hate content on electronic and social media.
Authorities agreed that any decision to suspend internet or mobile phone services will be made in consultation with the relevant provinces. It is based on ground realities and security concerns. Naqvi stressed strict enforcement of the Muharram code of conduct and the use of modern technology to monitor processions and gatherings.
