Islamabad, June 27, 2025: Kaku made goal early in the second half, leading Al Ain to a 2-1 win over Wydad AC in their concluding Club World Cup clash on Thursday. The Wydad AC Vs Al Ain fixture marked the final appearance in the competition for both sides.

Neither team was in the race for a spot in the tournament’s knockout phase. They entered this last Group G meeting still chasing their first victory, in a group dominated by Manchester City and Juventus.

At the same time in Orlando in Juventus Vs Man City, Manchester City overpowered Juventus 5-2 to secure the top position in the group.

Wydad’s manager, Mohamed Amine Benhachem, appeared at the match on crutches after being involved in a road accident earlier in the week alongside the team’s medical officer. Thankfully, there were no severe injuries, although Benhachem missed the pre-match press briefing due to his condition.

Wydad AC got on the scoreboard in the fourth minute when Cassius Mailula, left unmarked, met a cross from Mohamed Moufid and slotted past Rui Patrício at the near post. Mailula is currently on loan from MLS side Toronto FC.

Kodjo Laba equalized from the penalty spot for Al Ain just before the break.

The winning moment came in the 50th minute when Paraguayan playmaker Kaku struck a powerful shot into the top right corner. Wydad AC center-back Jamal Harkass sustained an injury during the buildup and was stretchered off.

The Wydad AC Vs Al Ain contest saw Al Ain break their goal drought through Laba’s VAR-approved penalty. The match was largely a fight for honor, with Wydad’s only other goal in the event coming against Juventus.
