Islamabad, June 27, 2025: In a decisive move to maintain public safety, the Punjab government has imposed a complete ban on drone use during Muharram processions and gatherings, citing serious security concerns. The restriction extends to all uses, including media coverage.
Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari, in a press briefing on Thursday, confirmed the deployment of Pakistan Army and Rangers across the province to assist police forces. “Several sleeper cells have already been detained. Intelligence and surveillance operations are ongoing,” she said.
With over 38,000 Majalis and 9,000 processions scheduled across Punjab, the government is deploying more than 238,000 police personnel and 35,000 registered volunteers. Specialized units such as the Dolphin Force and CTD will be on high alert during the sensitive period.
A strict code of conduct has been enforced, and the cybersecurity wing has been tasked with cracking down on hate content and inflammatory posts on social media. The decision to suspend mobile services and restrict pillion riding will be made based on the ground situation, Bokhari added.
