Islamabad, June 27, 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a serious alert for Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs) and flash floods in five key districts—Upper Chitral, Lower Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, and Upper Kohistan—following a fresh forecast of heavy rainfall from June 26 to July 1.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted a prolonged wet spell with widespread rain and thunderstorms, warning of isolated heavy to very heavy downpours that may trigger life-threatening flooding in both urban and rural areas.

To mitigate potential risks, district authorities have been ordered to stay on high alert and initiate precautionary steps. Emergency rescue teams have been mobilized, while vulnerable communities are being issued early warnings. Special attention is being given to low-lying and mountainous regions, where the risk of landslides and infrastructure damage remains high.

In addition to the five districts, the PDMA has extended its alert to over 30 other regions, including Mansehra, Kohistan, Mardan, and Peshawar, due to increasing chances of urban flooding and road blockages from debris flows.

Meanwhile, in Angoor Adda, South Waziristan, a violent windstorm coupled with torrential rain caused widespread destruction. Several homes, shops, and the Jamia Masjid Farooqia sustained major damage.

According to Maulana Tasbeehullah Wazir, solar panels and household items were also destroyed. Local residents are now urging the government for immediate relief efforts and compensation.

Authorities are urging residents in high-risk zones to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during downpours, and report emergencies without delay.
