Islamabad, July 1, 2025: Karachi Free Parking Alert: Mayor Murtaza Wahab has officially abolished all charged parking on roads falling under the jurisdiction of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), effective Tuesday. From now on, parking at all open KMC-designated spots will be free of cost.
This major move aims to ease the financial burden on Karachi residents, as promised earlier this year. Wahab had announced his plan in February to eliminate parking fees from public roads to support citizens struggling with rising living expenses.
Speaking to Express News, the mayor clarified that KMC used to earn Rs 40 to 50 million annually through parking charges, but now, the organization is financially stable and no longer dependent on this income. “KMC is now self-sufficient and doesn’t rely on parking revenue,” he stated.
46 Parking Sites Declared Free
According to the mayor, parking charges have been fully abolished at 46 official sites across 106 main roads within KMC limits. Orders have already been dispatched to parking staff, traffic police, and deputy commissioners to halt all fee collection at these locations.
However, parking charges will continue in gated and enclosed areas like Bara Dari, Dolmen Center, Safari Park, Karachi Zoo, and other select locations.
Strict Action Against Illegal Parking Fees
Wahab issued a clear warning that anyone caught demanding parking fees in areas now declared free will face strict legal action. “Our aim is to bring maximum relief to the people of Karachi,” he emphasized.
