Islamabad, July 3, 2025: Islamabad’s traffic police have announced a new helmet rule making it mandatory for both drivers and passengers to wear helmets on motorcycles. The decision will take effect after a two-week awareness campaign, according to Chief Traffic Officer Syed Zeeshan Haider.
After this period, strict fines will be imposed on violators, including both riders and pillion passengers not wearing helmets. The aim is to enhance road safety in Islamabad, where motorcycle accidents remain a serious concern.
A police spokesperson noted, “Riding a motorcycle is over 20 times riskier than driving a car. Both the rider and passenger must take equal safety responsibility.”
In cities across Pakistan, including Karachi and Lahore, traffic rule violations and low awareness have led to frequent accidents. The authorities believe that enforcing helmet laws can help reduce injuries and save lives.
