Islamabad, July 4, 2025: Pakistan has locally assembled 12.05 million mobile phone handsets in the first five months of 2025, significantly outpacing commercial imports, which fell to just 0.76 million units, according to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The PTA data shows that 6.53 million units were 2G feature phones, while 5.52 million were smartphones. In contrast, 31.38 million handsets were assembled throughout 2024, with imports capped at 1.71 million units, underscoring the country’s accelerating shift towards local production.
Currently, smartphones account for 67% of all mobile devices operating on Pakistani networks, while 2G devices make up the remaining 33%. This shift aligns with Pakistan’s ongoing push for digitalization and reduced dependency on imports.
Telecom Complaints: Jazz, Zong Lead in User Grievances
The PTA also reported receiving 10,241 consumer complaints against telecom and internet providers in May 2025, with an impressive 97.92% resolution rate.
Among mobile networks, Jazz topped the list with 3,543 complaints, followed by Zong (2,724), Telenor (1,722), and Ufone (1,129). Despite the volume, resolution rates remained strong, led by Jazz at 99.3% and Ufone at 97.4%.
Other reported issues included 126 complaints against basic telephony (89.7% resolved) and 695 against internet providers, with a 90.5% resolution rate.
