ISLAMABAD, July 4, 2025 — Local mobile phone assembly and manufacturing units in Pakistan produced 12.05 million devices during the first five months of the ongoing calendar year (January to May 2025), while commercial imports totaled 0.76 million units, according to industry data.
A breakdown of local production shows that 5.52 million of the assembled devices were smartphones, while the remaining 6.53 million were 2G feature phones. Among brands, Infinix led the production volume with 1.34 million units manufactured during the first 11 months of CY2025.
Mobile production has seen a declining trend since 2022, largely due to ongoing economic pressures and high interest rates, which have constrained the local industry’s growth.

According to the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), 24.66 million mobile devices were manufactured locally in 2021. That number fell to 21.28 million in 2023, marking a 13.71% decrease over the period.
A more significant decline occurred in commercial imports, which dropped from 24.51 million units in 2020 to 1.58 million in 2023, as a result of import restrictions imposed by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) to reduce the trade deficit and foreign exchange outflows.
With improved internet access across the country, the proportion of smartphones on mobile networks has increased to 67% in 2025, up from 59% in 2023 and 56% in 2022. Conversely, the use of 2G devices has declined to 33%, compared to 41% in 2023 and 44% in 2022.
