Islamabad, July 5, 2025: In a dramatic change of Britain’s political scene, Zarah Sultana, the Member of Parliament for Coventry South, revealed she will co-lead the launch of a new political party alongside ex-Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn. With their departure from the Labour Party, both politicians accuse it of straying from its founding principles.
Sultana announced her exit from Labour on Thursday night, issuing a statement that labeled Westminster as “dysfunctional” and accused the country’s two dominant parties of presenting “nothing but controlled deterioration and empty pledges.”
She called on backers to assist in establishing an alternative political platform, anchored in fairness and equity.

Although Corbyn has previously hinted at creating a more organized platform for left-wing and pro-Palestinian voices, Sultana’s declaration caught many off guard within the Independent Alliance—a loose coalition of five MPs, including Corbyn, who split from Labour largely over its position on Gaza. Insiders close to Corbyn expressed unease about the timing of Sultana’s move, calling it possibly “too soon.”
Nevertheless, Corbyn admitted that talks regarding a fresh political group are ongoing. During an appearance on ITV’s Peston, he stated: “That coalition [of independents] will unite, there will be an alternative.”

While avoiding the term “party” or confirming any leadership position for himself, he reaffirmed his dedication to building a political force focused on “peace over conflict” and tackling hardship and injustice.
Their new initiative has been compared to growing progressive campaigns abroad. Economist Richard D. Wolff posted: “A fresh political left is emerging… in the US, Sanders-AOC-Mamdani, and now in the UK with Corbyn-Zarah Sultana. At last!”
Still, some critics accused her of overlooking local matters in Coventry.
