Islamabad, July 6, 2025: The Punjab government has given approval to major infrastructure upgrade to reduce traffic congestions and enhance road safety in Rawalpindi and Mandi Bahauddin.
These plans were approved during the second meeting of the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) for the financial year 2025-26, held on Friday.
In the roads and bridges category, the PDWP approved the building of two underpasses in Rawalpindi, one at GPO Chowk and another at TM Chowk on The Mall, along with a pedestrian underpass close to the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC).
The total expected expense for these projects is Rs. 5.552 billion. Besides this, another road development project was approved for Mandi Bahauddin. It covers the expansion of the road from District Complex to Kakuwal Bridge along the Gujrat Branch, along with the building of a flyover. This project is estimated to cost Rs. 1.864 billion.

The session was led by Chairman Planning and Development Board Punjab, Dr. Naeem Rauf, and attended by key members such as Secretary P&D Board Rafaqat Ali and Chief Economist Masood Anwar.
These infrastructure developments are part of a larger growth program that includes nine big projects in different areas, with total spending crossing Rs. 52.3 billion.
