Islamabad, July 6, 2025: India’s skipper Shubman Gill broke several records as he followed up his first-innings score of 269 with a thrilling 161 on the fourth day of the second Test against England at Edgbaston on Saturday.
The right-hander kept punishing England’s inexperienced bowling line-up and collected a total of 430 runs in both innings.
With this achievement, he became just the fifth batter in history to cross 400 runs in a single Test match, joining the ranks of Graham Gooch, Mark Taylor, Kumar Sangakkara, and Brian Lara.

Gill now holds the second spot on this rare list, topped by Gooch, who made 456 runs against India in 1990.

The 25-year-old also became just the second player ever to score over 150 in both innings of a Test, after Alan Border, who did so against Pakistan in 1980.
Moreover, Shubman Gill became the third Indian captain to hit a hundred in each innings of a Test, joining Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli.
