Islamabad, July 8, 2025: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has nominated Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, citing the former US president’s role in brokering regional peace deals. The nomination took place during a White House meeting where both leaders discussed Middle East developments.

Netanyahu praised Trump’s efforts in securing the Abraham Accords, which led to diplomatic normalisation between Israel and several Arab states. “He’s forging peace as we speak,” Netanyahu said during a private dinner with Trump.

However, the move has sparked criticism amid Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza. Over 57,000 Palestinians have reportedly been killed, with international bodies accusing Israel of war crimes. Human rights groups condemned the nomination as tone-deaf given the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

In May 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and ex-defence minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes, including blocking aid to civilians in Gaza.

Trump, who has received prior nominations, has voiced frustration at never winning the prize. He highlighted his past mediation roles in conflicts involving India, Pakistan, Serbia, and Kosovo.
