Islamabad, July 10, 2025: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has announced an ambitious education reform plan with a record-breaking allocation of Rs. 364 billion for the fiscal year 2025–26. This move underlines the province’s focus on enhancing school infrastructure, boosting educational quality, and ensuring better access to learning facilities across urban and rural areas.
1,500 Schools to Be Transferred to Private Sector
Education Minister Faisal Tarakai revealed that 1,500 government schools will be handed over to the private sector under a public-private partnership (PPP) to improve management and quality. At the same time, 200 new schools will be launched under the Elementary Education Foundation to serve underserved regions.
Smart Classrooms & Tech Integration
To modernize classrooms, Rs. 1.2 billion has been set aside to build smart classrooms equipped with computer labs and internet connectivity in high and higher secondary schools. This investment aims to close the digital divide and bring KP’s education system in line with modern standards.
Focus on Merged Districts and Infrastructure
The reform also targets schools in merged districts, many of which lack basic infrastructure. The government will construct 500 new primary classrooms, distribute free textbooks, school bags, and stationery, and continue the education card scheme to support students financially.
Additionally, the budget includes funding for 29 new education projects and the restoration of 10 historic schools. By year-end, all government schools in the province will be fully furnished.
