Islamabad, July 10, 2025: Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, held a session today with a senior delegation from Meta, headed by Sarim Aziz, Director for Public Policy in South and Central Asia. The conversation centred on boosting digital advancement in Pakistan, examining the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and strengthening collaboration in public sector innovation and skill-building.

The Minister emphasised the Government’s firm dedication to a Digital Pakistan, mentioning that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif conducts a weekly progress review on the country’s shift toward a cashless economy.

She stressed that fostering a digitally capable society remains a core element of the Prime Minister’s vision for Digital Nation Pakistan, where modern technologies hold a key role in administration, service provision, and economic progress.

Meta’s representatives updated the Minister about the company’s recent breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence, including the LLaMA open-source tools, Generative AI uses for government departments, and advancements in native language models, including Urdu.

Both parties showed strong willingness for joint training programs, particularly for teachers, and agreed to pursue expanded cooperation in AI usage, digital education, and innovative partnerships to back Pakistan’s growing digital landscape.
