Islamabad, July 12, 2025: The Punjab government has recently spent more than Rs. 283 crore on the buying of new luxury cars for top government officials and departments, according to official sources. The expenditure includes several high-end models, raising eyebrows amid the province’s financial concerns.

For intelligence agencies, 10 double cabin vehicles and one bulletproof car were bought, costing the amount around Rs. 50 crore. Similarly, the Chief Minister’s Inspection Team and other high-ranking officials have also received 48 new vehicles, costing around approximately Rs. 90 crore.

The provincial ministers and administrative secretaries were also allotted 76 vehicles, reportedly worth over Rs. 71 crore. Among these, four Toyota Fortuner SUVs and 74 Toyota Corolla Altis models were purchased.

In addition, the Punjab Home Department also added 10 new vehicles, including double cabins worth Rs. 91 lakh and other cars for Rs. 72,000 each. Meanwhile, seven vehicles worth Rs. 3 crore were bought for protocol use and Rs. 4 crore were spent on 15 new vehicles for different districts.

Government insiders claim that all purchases have been made with proper documentation and in accordance with approved allocations. A provincial spokesperson stated that the cars were needed to ensure efficient administrative functioning and that no irregularities had occurred in the procurement process.

This major vehicle spending follows a pattern seen in other provinces as well. For instance, Sindh’s Finance Department recently authorized new vehicle purchases, while the FBR reportedly distributed Honda City cars worth Rs. 6 billion to tax officers, sparking widespread debate over government spending priorities.
