Islamabad, July 13, 2025: Azerbaijan has confirmed a new gas export deal with Syria to help ease the country’s worsening energy crisis. The decision was finalized during a meeting between Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Syria’s transitional leader Ahmed al-Sharaa in Baku.

After years of war, Syria is grappling with daily power outages of up to 20 hours in several areas. The new leadership, which replaced Bashar al-Assad in December, is focused on rebuilding the shattered energy infrastructure.

Azerbaijan gas export to Syria will be routed through Turkiye, according to an official statement from the Azerbaijani presidency. The leaders emphasized joint cooperation in energy, highlighting a project in progress that will soon start delivering Azerbaijani gas to Syria via a Turkish pipeline.
