Islamabad, July 19, 2025: A Pakistani climber Iftikhar Hussain Sadpara from Skardu, lost his life after an avalanche hit near Camp 1 on K2, the country highest mountain. The incident happened around 2:30 pm on Friday, as confirmed by the Alpine Club of Pakistan (ACP).
The avalanche affected four climbers. Two of them made it back to base camp safely while a foreign climber got minor injuries. Sadly, Iftikhar Hussain could not survive and his body was found and brought to base camp soon after the incident.
The Pakistan Army sent a helicopter to bring his body from the base camp to Skardu. He will be buried in his home village.
President of the Alpine Club, Major General Irfan Arshad while sharing his sorrow sent prayers and support to Iftikhar’s family and friends. He called this loss a sad moment for the climbing community in Pakistan. The club’s Senior Vice President Karrar Haidri, also paid respect to Iftikhar’s passion and his efforts in promoting mountaineering.

Pakistan is known for its high mountains but climbing these peaks is very risky and sometimes turns deadly. In 2021, famous Pakistani mountaineer Mohammad Ali Sadpara went missing while climbing K2 and later, he and two other climbers were declared dead.
The loss of Iftikhar Hussain is a big blow to Pakistan climbing world and a reminder of the risks involved in such tough adventures.
