Islamabad, 20 July: The Auditor General’s 2024-25 report has exposed major mismanagement and suspected corruption in wheat imports during the caretaker government.
Despite having 4.64 million metric tons in stock and a local production of 31.47 million metric tons, authorities imported wheat worth Rs300 billion—far above the approved quota. Only 2.4 million metric tons had been sanctioned for 2023-24, but 3.5 million was brought in.
The audit blames flawed and manipulated data, which inflated demand and caused financial losses. Punjab and Sindh also released less wheat to flour mills, creating artificial shortages.

It also notes that the ECC and cabinet approved just one million tons, yet excess imports were made, with delays in processing benefiting private entities. No record exists of wheat exports to Afghanistan, raising further concerns.
