Officials from the district administration say the flooding was worsened by illegal structures obstructing the natural drainage. This lead to water stagnation in low-lying parts of the famed village.
Sanitation teams are currently working to clear drains, while authorities vowed to demolish the illegal encroachments once the rain eases.
“The operations will continue until all illegal structures are removed”, a spokesperson said.

The flooding in Saidpur comes against the backdrop of a wider monsoon emergency in Punjab and northern Pakistan. Since the seasonal rains began on June 26, over 120 people have perished and hundreds more injured in Punjab alone, as per the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The dramatic rise in river levels, especially the Jhelum, threatens further destruction in coming days.
