Karachi, July 21, 2025: The Pakistani rupee (PKR) experienced a slight depreciation against the US dollar (USD) on Monday, closing the interbank session at Rs284.95,
The rupee fell 0.03%, or 8 paisas, against the dollar from the Friday’s close of Rs284.84, according to the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) post.
Throughout the day, the exchange rate oscillated near Rs285 against the dollar, before settling slightly lower. This reflects a milk downward pressure on the rupee.
In the open market, the dollar was traded between Rs287 and Rs290, with some sellers quoting rates as high as Rs291 in Islamabad.

The Pakistani rupee remained generally weak against the dollar and other major currencies.
British pound strengths against rupee
The British pound (GBP) also strengthened against the rupee, reaching a range of Rs384 to Rs391 in the open market. The rupee slipped by 24 paisas against the pound.
Euro, dirham, riyal
It similarly slipped 11 paisas against the euro. While smaller declines were noted against the UAE dirham and the Saudi riyal.

Since the beginning of the current fiscal year, the rupee has weekend by 2.14% against the US dollar. The pressures on foreign reserves and macroeconomic issues are given as the biggest reasons for the currency’s devaluation.
