Islamabad 22 July: Pakistan and Australia have agreed to work more closely together in the energy and mineral sectors.
The decision was made during a meeting in Islamabad between Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Australian High Commissioner, Neil Hawkins.
The Minister said that working together in energy will help Pakistan’s economy grow. He encouraged Australian companies to invest in Pakistan’s mining and energy sectors, adding that the government will fully support such partnerships. He also mentioned that Pakistan has made important changes to improve its mining sector.
Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins said that Australian companies are interested in investing in Pakistan’s minerals. He praised Pakistan’s economic progress under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saying the current account surplus and improved environment for sending profits abroad have increased confidence among international businesses.
He also suggested building partnerships in mining training between Australian universities and companies and Pakistani institutions.
