Islamabad 22 July: Punjab has become the first province in Pakistan to operationalize specialised security forces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment, marking a historic advancement in provincial autonomy and governance.

Acting on the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the province has launched several dedicated units, including the Punjab Counter-Narcotics Force (CNF), Wildlife Force, Environment Force, Forest Force, and Pera Force—each tailored to tackle specific challenges.

In a landmark ceremony today, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz formally inaugurated the Punjab Counter-Narcotics Force during its first passing-out parade. The event featured a guard of honour, an oath-taking ceremony, and a symbolic handover of the CNF flag.

The Chief Minister inspected the force’s digital surveillance vehicles and interacted with the personnel, commending especially the female officers for their discipline and impressive performance during the march-past.

Briefing the CM on the structure and readiness of the force, CNF Director General Brigadier Mazhar Iqbal detailed its current strength and future plans. In its first phase, CNF has recruited 866 personnel, established regional directorates, and set up operational stations across all divisions of Punjab.

All officers and recruits have completed an intensive 12-week training programme at the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) Academy in Rawalpindi, ensuring a high standard of operational readiness and professionalism.

Plans are underway to expand the CNF’s reach to the district level in the second phase of implementation.

With this initiative, Punjab has not only exercised its constitutional powers under the 18th Amendment but also set a precedent for other provinces to follow in institutional innovation and security sector reform.
