Islamabad 22 July: In a major step towards reforming Pakistan’s oil sector, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is finalizing a landmark initiative to fully digitize the country’s oil supply chain, aiming to boost transparency, eliminate inefficiencies, and restore public trust.

OGRA unveiled the roadmap for the digital transformation during a high-level seminar attended by key industry stakeholders. The authority confirmed that the project is now in its final stages of implementation.

Speaking at the seminar, OGRA Chairman Imran Ghaznavi underscored the urgency of the digital shift.

“The complete digitalization of the oil industry is an urgent necessity. It is not only a strategic goal but also a legal requirement,” he said.
Ghaznavi emphasized that real-time digital monitoring of the supply chain is essential to ensuring national transparency and accountability across the sector.

The digital platform, once fully operational, will allow end-to-end tracking of the oil supply chain, including refineries, storage facilities, tankers, depots, and fuel stations. This integration aims to curb irregularities, enhance oversight, and streamline operations across the board.

OGRA has also issued clear compliance deadlines for all stakeholders involved in the oil supply chain.

“All parties must align with the digital framework or face regulatory action,” Ghaznavi warned, highlighting that penalties for non-compliance have been defined and will be enforced.

The initiative marks a transformative shift in how Pakistan manages its oil sector, with technology positioned as a critical tool for improving governance, efficiency, and consumer trust.
