Islamabad, July 23, 2025: In a major infrastructure breakthrough, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan has greenlit the expansion of the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway and its extension toward Kharian and Islamabad, aiming to reshape the travel landscape of Punjab.
The project includes widening the current four-lane stretch to six lanes and constructing a direct link connecting Kharian to Islamabad, offering a faster alternative to the overburdened Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M-2). This strategic move is set to reduce the travel distance by approximately 100 kilometers, slashing commute times by nearly an hour—directly benefiting commuters from Gujranwala, Gujrat, Jhelum, Gujar Khan, and Kharian.
The announcement was made during a high-level review session at the National Highway Authority’s Punjab Office, where Minister Khan emphasized strict adherence to quality and completion timelines. He further instructed officials to draft a robust 30-year infrastructure development blueprint to meet future regional demands.

Another top priority discussed was the accelerated development of the Multan Road to Ring Road corridor, with the minister issuing a clear directive: “Delays and substandard work will not be tolerated.”
The meeting was attended by the Federal Secretary for Communications, the Chairman of the NHA, and the CEO of RUDA, all of whom provided comprehensive briefings on Punjab’s ongoing and upcoming infrastructure projects.
This motorway upgrade not only enhances regional connectivity but also reflects the government’s long-term vision for a more efficient, modern, and integrated road network across Pakistan.
