Dubai, July 24, 2025: The International Cricket Council (ICC) imposed penalties following on-field heated exchange in the opening women’s one-day international (ODI) between India and England in Southampton.

India’s Pratika Rawal was sanctioned for violating the ICC conduct regulations. She was fined 10% of her match fee and given a demerit point, related to two separate physical contacts with English player during the match.

The Indian player accepted the charges and so, avoided the need for a formal hearing. The demerit point will remain on her disciplinary record for two years.

Meanwhile, the England women’s team pleased guilty to a slow over-rate breach. Officials found the side bowled one over fewer than required within the allotted time, even after penalty allowances.

As a result, the team’s players were collectively docked 5% of their match fees.

Despite such setbacks, both sides need to now turn their attention to the upcoming second ODI at the Lord’s.
