Karachi, July 24, 2025: Karachi Shipyard and Engineering Works (KS&EW) hosted the launch ceremony for a new gun boat developed by the Pakistan Navy in-house design team.
The vessel, designated PNS Sahiwal (Desig), represents a key advancement in the navy’s efforts to build indigenous maritime assets.

Equipped with advanced semi-autonomous long-range weaponry, the craft is intended to improve Pakistan’s capabilities in coastal and offshore security operations.
Its design and construction are indicative of a growing domestic expertise in naval engineering and manufacturing.
The event was attended by top naval leadership, with the Vice Chief of Naval Staff acknowledging the strong cooperation between the Navy’s design division and the KS&EW.
He also thanked the ongoing support from the Ministry of Defense Production, which played a huge role in enabling such projects.

Plans are reportedly underway to consider further production of similar gun boats, something that would bolster local shipbuilding activities and promote self-sufficiency in defense equipment.
The launch attracted senior representatives from several defense and adjacent industries.
