Islamabad, July 27, 2025: In a groundbreaking move to uplift rural Punjab, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved the transformation of 1,200 villages into state-of-the-art Model Villages under the “Suthra Punjab” and “Waste to Value” programs.
The project, designed to modernize rural infrastructure and boost environmental sustainability, marks one of the most ambitious rural development plans in the province’s history.
According to official sources, each Model Village will feature a 24/7 clean water supply, fully integrated underground sewage systems, and advanced waste management plants. These villages will also benefit from upgraded road networks, paved streets, solar-powered utilities, and dedicated green spaces, including tree plantations and children’s recreational parks.
One of the standout features of this initiative is the introduction of numbered houses with visible signboards, making navigation and postal services more efficient for residents. In a bid to cut energy costs and ensure long-term sustainability, the government has also approved solar-powered solutions for water and sewage systems.
So far, development work in 130 pilot villages has been successfully completed. CM Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to fast-track the remaining phases, emphasizing that timelines must be clearly defined and that areas should be prioritized based on local needs and community input.
