Islamabad, July 29, 2025: Dale Steyn and Tabraiz Shamsi argue online over the Jadeja and Stokes draw controversy fueling a fiery cricket debate.
The fourth Test between India and England may have ended without a winner but a post-match controversy involving Ben Stokes and Ravindra Jadeja has stirred up heated debate online. The issue arose when Stokes offered to call the match a draw before the scheduled close, but Indian batters Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar chose to continue batting to complete their centuries, even though the result was already settled.

Former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn supported Stokes, suggesting that once both teams had ensured the draw, the sporting thing to do was to shake hands and end the game. He felt that playing on for personal milestones, while technically allowed was unnecessary and not in line with the spirit of the situation. Steyn’s view sparked strong reactions, particularly when a fan accused him of favouring the English side.
Current South African spinner Tabraiz Shamsi openly disagreed with Steyn, defending India’s decision. He argued that the players had earned the right to continue and achieve their personal goals, and there was no issue in choosing to do so. This public disagreement between two prominent cricketers added fuel to the already viral debate.

While cricket fans remain divided over whether Jadeja and Sundar’s decision was justified, the incident has highlighted differing views on sportsmanship and strategy. England captain Ben Stokes has since played down the matter while Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has supported his players choice to continue batting.
