The Punjab administration has decided to upgrade the infrastructure of the Lahore Safe City Authority, as officials disclosed that the software and hardware installed back in 2016 are now considered outdated.
As per authority representatives, the existing system will undergo modernization in three stages to align with today’s technological requirements. The estimated expenditure for replacing both the hardware and software components stands at Rs. 3 billion.

In the ongoing financial year, Rs. 1 billion has been earmarked for the first phase. This stage involves fitting new surveillance equipment, launching a Traffic Intelligence Management System, and enhancing data handling capacities.

Officials mentioned that the overhaul includes a full replacement of current software and networking tools, aiming to transition from the old system to an advanced, streamlined framework.
They pointed out that numerous other cities have already embraced upgraded solutions, and it’s now essential for Lahore’s setup to catch up. The complete transformation is projected to conclude within two years, after which the entire Safe City project will operate using up-to-date digital systems.
