Islamabad, July 31, 2025: The Pakistan Meteorological Department and NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Center have issued a high alert regarding weather conditions and potential natural hazards until August 3. Heavy monsoon rains are expected to cause urban flooding, flash floods in streams, and the risk of Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOF) in Gilgit-Baltistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
Urban flooding is feared in major cities such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Khushab, and Narowal. Rising water levels in Bhen, Basantar, and Deeg streams could cause flood-like situations in northeastern Punjab.

Severe rainfall is expected in KP over the next 12 to 24 hours, posing risks of flash flooding in low-lying areas and landslides in mountainous regions. Affected districts may include Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mansehra, Battagram, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Mardan, Peshawar, and Charsadda. Torrential downpours are also forecasted for Kohat, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and D.I. Khan.
In Gilgit-Baltistan and KP, the melting of glacial lakes poses a serious threat of sudden floods. Areas such as Badswat, Hanarchi, Tarsat, Hindur, Darkot, Ishkoman, Shishper, Reshun, Brep, Booni, Sardar Gol, and Arkari are at high risk of flooding and landslides.
NDMA has directed all concerned departments to take proactive measures and ensure preparedness for any emergency. The public is strongly advised to avoid unnecessary travel to sensitive zones and follow local advisories.
