Islamabad, July 31, 2025: In a proactive step to protect public safety during the monsoon season, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has launched a dedicated enforcement campaign to remove illegal and unsafe constructions near key drainage points and water bodies across the city.

Following the directives of Director General Kinza Murtaza, the RDA’s enforcement team has intensified operations against encroachments and unauthorized buildings that pose a serious flood risk during heavy rainfall.

The campaign kicked off this week on Adyala Road, extending to Jawa Dam, Misriot Dam, Dhamial Road, and the Dhamial-Kalyal Link Road—areas marked as high risk for water blockage and urban flooding.

As part of this special operation, 10 notices were issued to property owners responsible for constructing unsafe or unauthorized structures on sensitive routes and drainage channels. The goal is to clear encroachments that restrict the natural flow of stormwater and heighten the chance of monsoon flooding in low-lying urban areas.

Officials conducted comprehensive inspections at key water reservoirs to detect vulnerabilities that could lead to water contamination or overflow. The inspection focused on potential blockages near natural nullahs and stormwater drains, which are vital during heavy rains.

DG Kinza Murtaza reiterated RDA’s zero-tolerance policy toward unauthorized development, especially in high-risk zones. She also emphasized the campaign’s alignment with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision, which calls for firm action against encroachments and supports long-term urban resilience planning.

“This is not just a routine operation—it’s part of our wider mission to ensure climate-resilient infrastructure and sustainable urban management,” said Murtaza. “We are urging the public to avoid illegal construction and support our efforts to keep Rawalpindi safe.”

The on-ground enforcement was led by Assistant Director of Building Control Shiza Tanweer, with support from Building Surveyor Aamir Mahmood Malik and other team members. The officials targeted constructions near critical water bodies and drainage channels, where violations are most likely to endanger lives during extreme weather events.

Through these actions, the RDA aims to mitigate flood risks, preserve vital infrastructure, and reinforce public trust in city planning. Citizens are strongly advised to report unauthorized development and cooperate with ongoing safety measures.
