Islamabad, July 31, 2025: Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced on Monday that individuals in Punjab who convert their petrol motorcycles into electric vehicle motors will receive a financial incentive of Rs. 100,000. This initiative is part of the provincial government’s Green Credit Program, aimed at promoting sustainable transport and reducing carbon emissions across the province.
Green Credit Program
This initiative enables residents to receive monetary benefits referred to as green credits for taking eco-friendly steps to lower carbon emissions. Besides modifying petrol-run bikes into electric ones, citizens can also earn these credits by planting trees and switching to LED bulbs.
Tree Plantation and Urban Forest Development
Speaking about Punjab’s greenery drive, Aurangzeb mentioned that the “Plant for Pakistan” campaign is actively boosting tree coverage across the province. As part of this effort:
- Lahore residents can call 1399 to receive free saplings at their doorsteps.
 - Around 300,000 trees are scheduled to be planted along the Ring Road.
 - Advanced tracking systems—similar to those in Australia—will be used to monitor each tree’s health and location.

She also shared that illegally occupied forest lands have been recovered and a modern, tech-supported fire response unit will soon be established, under the supervision of the Bank of Punjab.
Smog Control and Air Monitoring Initiatives
Aurangzeb stressed that reducing pollution and tackling smog in Lahore is among the government top priorities. Seven air monitoring stations have already been deployed as part of the Punjab Air Quality System to keep pollution levels in check.
She called on citizens to join in by saying, “It is the responsibility of every Lahori to plant more trees. The more we plant, the better our air quality index will become.”
