Islamabad, Aug 1, 2025: In a major leap toward sustainable transportation, Nishat Group is joining hands with China’s Chery Automobile Co. to establish a $100 million electric vehicle (EV) production facility in Pakistan. The ambitious project, led by NexGen Auto Pvt. Ltd.—a Nishat Group subsidiary—marks a significant milestone in the country’s shift toward clean mobility. As part of the collaboration, Chery Electric and Hybrid SUVs in Pakistan will be introduced, paving the way for advanced, eco-friendly automotive options for local consumers.

According to company CFO Muhammad Aqib Zulfiqar, five new electric models under the Chery Omoda and Jaecoo brands will be unveiled at a grand launch event this Friday. These vehicles will enter local assembly in October 2025, solidifying Nishat’s role as a frontrunner in the growing EV market.

Strategic Partnership for a Greener Future

After extensive market research and site visits in China, Nishat chose Chery for its technological leadership and cost-efficient manufacturing. “Chinese automakers have made groundbreaking progress in EV innovation and affordability,” Zulfiqar stated, highlighting the strategic decision behind the alliance.

The Nishat Chery EV Pakistan initiative comes as interest in electric vehicles surges among Pakistani consumers. Several Chinese brands have already introduced EVs in the market, with BYD planning its local production in 2025, signaling a wider transition.

A Call for Policy Support

While industry giants like Nishat pave the way for electrification, Zulfiqar emphasized the importance of government action. He urged faster implementation of the national EV policy, especially regarding charging infrastructure and licensing. Without these steps, he warned, the full potential of EV adoption may be delayed.

Vision 2030: Driving the EV Revolution

Pakistan has set an ambitious goal: 30% of all vehicle sales, imports, and production to be electric by 2030. The Nishat Chery partnership directly contributes to this target by combining global expertise with local assembly capabilities, potentially lowering EV costs and boosting accessibility for consumers.
