Islamabad – August 3, 2025: On the special directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the Government of Pakistan has decided to establish dedicated immigration counters for foreign passengers at all international airports across the country. This initiative is aimed at enhancing passenger facilitation, promoting tourism, and attracting foreign investment by providing a smoother and faster immigration process for international travelers.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), in an official statement, announced that this measure is part of a broader strategy to improve Pakistan’s global image, ease business travel, and support the government’s economic reform agenda. The dedicated immigration counters are expected to significantly reduce waiting times for foreign visitors, ensuring a hassle-free arrival experience in Pakistan.

The initiative has already been launched at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport, where separate immigration counters for foreign nationals became operational earlier this week. The government has directed relevant authorities to expedite the establishment of similar counters at other major international airports, including Islamabad International Airport, Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, Peshawar, Quetta, and Sialkot airports.

Officials stated that this development will not only benefit foreign passengers but also reduce congestion and processing times for Pakistani citizens returning from abroad, leading to overall improved efficiency at immigration checkpoints.

This move is seen as a crucial step under the government’s wider efforts to modernize airport infrastructure, enhance travel facilitation, and align with Pakistan’s tourism and investment promotion strategies. Additionally, it supports the broader objective of fostering economic growth by creating a more investor-friendly environment, as emphasized in ongoing public service reforms.

Authorities have confirmed that the implementation process will be monitored closely, and feedback from travelers will be considered for further enhancements in immigration services across the country’s entry points.
