Islamabad, Aug 4, 2025: In a major push to ease traffic congestion in Rawalpindi, the Punjab government has unveiled a mega infrastructure project featuring two new flyovers and an underpass at key city points — Jinnah Park and Ammar Chowk.
With an estimated investment of Rs. 10 billion, this ambitious initiative is poised to significantly enhance urban mobility and reduce daily commuter delays. According to the Communication and Works Department, the detailed project proposal (PC-I) has already been forwarded to the Punjab Planning Department and awaits formal approval in the upcoming review session.
Jinnah Park Gets a Modern Traffic Upgrade
The Jinnah Park segment of the project includes both a flyover and an underpass. The flyover will be 1,510 feet long, 24 feet wide, and 16.75 feet high. Just below it, the underpass will run 1,265 feet in length, maintaining the same width. This part of the project alone carries a cost tag of Rs. 5.2 billion and is aimed at resolving bottlenecks in the heavily trafficked Jinnah Park vicinity.
Ammar Chowk Flyover to Handle High Traffic Volume
Meanwhile, the Ammar Chowk flyover will be the largest component of the project, stretching 4,003 feet in length and 28 feet in width, standing at a height of 16.75 feet. Its construction is expected to cost approximately Rs. 4.13 billion and will provide a long-awaited solution to peak-hour congestion in the area.
Major Relief for Kutchery Chowk and Surrounding Routes
Traffic studies reveal that more than 131,000 vehicles use Kutchery Chowk daily, especially from the Old Airport and Jhelum Road routes. By developing these new structures, city planners aim to streamline vehicle movement and minimize gridlocks, especially during rush hours.

Interestingly, an earlier proposal to revamp Kutchery Chowk was shelved in 2023 after initial discussions in 2022. However, the renewed commitment to Rawalpindi’s infrastructure now promises lasting improvements for urban connectivity.
