Islamabad, Aug 4, 2025: To tackle the ongoing shortage of doctors, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to appoint medical officers on fixed salaries across four districts, including Mardan. The move aims to fill gaps in healthcare facilities and enhance patient care in hospitals that have long suffered from staff shortages.

To uphold fairness, a grievance committee has been set up in each district. Led by the Special Secretary of Health and joined by the Additional Secretary Health, Director HRM, and Section Officer E-2, the panel will handle complaints about the recruitment drive in Mardan, Upper Dir, Haripur, and Batkhela. Written objections, backed by valid evidence, must be submitted by August 10. Any appeals sent after this date will not be accepted.

The Health Department has assured candidates of a just and transparent selection process. Officials said these steps aim to build trust and ensure equal opportunity for all applicants.

Earlier this year, KP initiated contract-based hiring of both general physicians and consultants to strengthen healthcare services at District Headquarters Hospitals (DHQs). In the first round, 115 medical officers and 51 consultants are being posted to revive specialized departments in various DHQs.

The Health Advisor, who sanctioned the recruitment, highlighted that the plan would not only generate jobs but also help patients access medical treatment in their home districts. To discourage staff transfers, doctors will be appointed to their local hospitals, with preference given to area residents.

Separately, the provincial government is also working to fill 248 long-pending management roles in the Health Department. Additionally, the hiring of 600 specialist doctors through the Public Service Commission is being expedited. A five-year age relaxation has been granted, increasing the upper age cap to 37, based on a request by the Provincial Doctors Association.
