Islamabad, Aug 4, 2025: Islamabad’s administration has launched a major drive to reduce air pollution by targeting smoke-emitting vehicles, following earlier actions like closing down brick kilns. As part of this green initiative, citizens can now avail a Free Emission Test in Islamabad at three key locations across the city—Old Parade Ground, F-9 Park, and the Excise Office.
This service is available until August 31, offering vehicle owners a chance to get their cars checked without any cost. The initiative aims to raise environmental awareness and improve the capital’s air quality by removing polluting vehicles from the roads.
After the deadline, the campaign will enter a strict enforcement phase. Starting September 1, any vehicle found emitting visible smoke within city limits will face heavy fines and could be banned from entering Islamabad.

So far, authorities have tested 2,778 vehicles, out of which 2,665 met the official emission standards. Every compliant vehicle is given a barcode sticker for their windshield, which serves as proof of passing the test.
The emission check is being carried out using internationally certified equipment. All types of vehicles—private and commercial—are being inspected. However, vehicles manufactured in 2021 or later are exempted during the initial stage of the campaign.
Residents have welcomed the move, appreciating the government’s efforts to reduce pollution. Many have urged the city administration to add more testing centers to ease access and cut down waiting times.
