Islamabad, Aug 4, 2025: Oman is fast becoming a rising star in global tourism, with the Sultanate unveiling bold goals under its Tourism Vision 2040. The nation plans to welcome 11 million tourists annually by 2040, supported by a sweeping national strategy that aligns economic growth with sustainability and cultural preservation.
The government, in collaboration with public and private partners, is driving forward an ambitious agenda to modernize its tourism and hospitality sectors. Backed by a projected OMR 20 billion investment, Oman is crafting an ecosystem that blends luxury, eco-conscious development, and cultural authenticity.
Strategic Investment in Sustainable Tourism
With major initiatives like the Sustainable City Yiti project—a $1 billion urban development in Muscat—Oman is integrating green practices into its tourism blueprint. The focus is not just on expanding tourist numbers, but doing so responsibly, in line with international ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) benchmarks.
As part of the Oman tourism 2040 vision, the Sultanate is leveraging its pristine coastlines, historic forts, and UNESCO-listed heritage sites to create a tourism model that values both experience and conservation.
Hospitality Industry to Grow by 6.3% Annually
Recent statistics from Oman’s National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) forecast a 6.3% compound annual growth rate for the hospitality sector by 2026. This includes expansion in luxury resorts, business hotels, eco-lodges, and community-based accommodations.
By diversifying tourism offerings, Oman is appealing to a broader range of travelers—from high-end visitors to sustainability-conscious explorers—while promoting job creation and local entrepreneurship.
Tourism as a Pillar of Economic Diversification
Tourism now plays a pivotal role in Oman’s wider economic diversification plans. The country is using its natural geography, cultural richness, and investor-friendly environment to establish itself as a premier destination in the Middle East.
