Islamabad, Aug 5, 2025: The fifth and last Test between England and India is on the brink of a thrilling end with the series result still uncertain. England need just 35 more runs to seal a 3-1 victory while India are eyeing four wickets to even the series at 2-2. A major talking point heading into Day 5 is the Chris Woakes injury which has created an unexpected twist in the match narrative.
Woakes suffered a painful shoulder blow while diving to stop a boundary, ruling him out from bowling any further. He was seen on Day 4 in the team area dressed in full kit, his left arm in a sling. Although initially ruled out for the remainder of the game, Joe Root revealed late Sunday that Woakes had offered to bat in the final innings if required.
“He’s committed, like everyone else,” said Root, after scoring his 39th Test century. “This series has demanded everything from us. Woakes had some batting drills earlier and said he’s ready. Hopefully, it won’t come to that, but he’s determined.”

Despite the Chris Woakes injury limiting his field contribution the England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed he remains eligible to bat, likely at No. 11. His participation will depend on the match’s intensity and his condition.
Cricket has often seen acts of bravery—Rishabh Pant’s fractured toe, Kumble’s broken jaw, and Graeme Smith’s injured hand. Woakes may soon be counted among them if he steps in for one last heroic effort.
