Islamabad, Aug 5, 2025: The Punjab government has opted to transfer all stops and terminals of the Orange Line Metro Train to solar power in a move aimed at lowering operational expenses and decreasing dependence on conventional power sources.

As per representatives from the Orange Line initiative, a 1.6-megawatt solar energy plant will be established to generate electricity for the train’s facilities. The power produced will be utilized for operating escalators, platforms, and other essential station functions.

Currently, the provincial authorities allocate billions of rupees annually in financial support to ensure the Orange Line remains functional. By switching to solar energy, officials forecast monthly savings in the range of millions of rupees on electricity expenses.
