Islamabad, Aug 8, 2025: Pakistan’s batter Haider Ali has been provisionally suspended by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after becoming the subject of a criminal investigation by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) in England.
The nature of the alleged offence remains undisclosed, but PCB sources confirmed that the 24-year-old was interviewed under caution during the Pakistan Shaheens’ recent UK tour.
Haider Ali is not in police custody and has already returned to Pakistan. The PCB confirmed receiving official communication from UK authorities and acted swiftly to bar him from all cricket-related activities until the inquiry is completed.
“The PCB respects the legal process of the United Kingdom and will allow the investigation to take its full course,” the board stated. “Haider Ali has been placed under provisional suspension with immediate effect, and the board is ensuring he receives legal assistance to protect his rights.”
The incident reportedly took place during the Shaheens’ tour, which concluded earlier this week. Haider Ali, considered one of the senior members of the squad, played in all three one-day matches against a First-Class Counties XI as well as two three-day fixtures.
This suspension marks another setback for Haider Ali, who was once hailed as one of Pakistan cricket’s brightest prospects after featuring in the 2020 U19 World Cup. Since then, he has represented Pakistan in two ODIs and 35 T20Is, but his career has struggled for consistency, with recent appearances mostly at the domestic and Pakistan A levels.

The PCB has stated that any disciplinary action under its Code of Conduct will be determined only after the UK legal process concludes and the facts are confirmed. Depending on the investigation’s outcome, Haider Ali’s international career could face serious uncertainty.
