Islamabad, Aug 8, 2025: To mark Pakistan Independence Day under the theme “Jashn-e-Azadi – Ma’raka-e-Haq,” the Sindh government has introduced a special Azadi Train service from Karachi to Zero Point, Tharparkar.
This decision came during a meeting led by Sindh Culture and Tourism Minister, Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah who emphasized the need for inclusive national celebrations.
The Managing Director of Tourism, Fayyaz Shah shared plans for the special train ride. Originally known as the Thar Desert Safari, the train has been renamed the Azadi Train in honor of Independence Day. It will depart from Karachi on August 13 and return the next evening, August 14. The route will pass through Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Umerkot, creating a festive atmosphere across southern Sindh.

Passengers will distribute flags at every station, promoting patriotism and unity. The train will reach Chhor Cantt on the first evening, where a musical evening is scheduled at Parchi Ji Veri. The following morning, the train will stop at Marvi Station in Khokhrapar for a flag hoisting and cake-cutting ceremony, then return to Karachi.
Minister Shah highlighted that this symbolic journey honors the sacrifices made during the freedom movement and aims to reflect a message of unity and peace to the world. Artists, activists and community figures will also join the celebration.
