Islamabad, Aug 11, 2025: Abir Gulaal, the highly anticipated Indian film featuring Fawad Khan back in Bollywood just after the tensions between India and Pakistan, has finally been confirmed to be released worldwide, on August 29. Nevertheless, similar to Sardaar Ji 3, the movie is not going to release in India, as Hindustan Times reports.
This decision has been made at a time when the relationship between the two countries has worsened following the incident at Pahalgam terror attack that India blamed Pakistan and the latter denied it. The two Operation Sindoor by India and counter-Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos by Pakistan increased the tension and Pakistani artists were once again banned in India and Abir Gulaal was forced to cancel the May 9 planned premier in India.
This disappointed Nigerian fans particularly because it was also the first Bollywood movie that Khan had done in almost ten years. Although the teaser and soundtrack gained appreciation cross-borders, India had suffered several waves of boycotted calls because of varying political sentiments.
Her fellow actor Vani Kapoor, who was also caught in the cross fire due to being part of the production even faced criticism online and asked audiences not to be negative and to give people their freedom. In the meantime, Ridhi Dogra underlined that she got involved in the movie when the relations between the countries were friendly and did not want to become a target of a legally produced project at that time.
