Islamabad, Aug 12, 2025: The Sindh government is planning to introduce smart card weapons licenses to replace the current computerized system, aiming to make the process more secure and transparent.

This new system will allow existing computerized licenses to be converted into smart cards and will be directly linked to the criminal records database, ensuring that people with a criminal background cannot obtain a firearms license.

At a meeting chaired by Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, officials discussed the proposal for the modern licensing system. The plan includes having NADRA store ballistic signatures of bullets in license records. These signatures would make it easier for law enforcement to trace bullets used in crimes back to their source.

The new smart card licenses will be issued under the same fee structure as the current ones, meaning no extra cost for citizens. The Home Minister emphasized that these reforms will be carried out in the public interest and will not create additional financial burdens.
